Created by industry-leading experts, our American Red Cross Babysitting Basics class covers a wide range of information that can help new babysitters, ages 11-18, gain the skills and confidence needed to care for infants and children. Babysitting is a great way to gain the experience needed for the job market or self-employment, especially for anyone interested in a career in childcare. The course takes approximately 4 hours to complete and includes information on:

  • How to care for infants and children
  • What to do in an emergency and how to stay safe, including CPR/First Aid
  • Choosing activities that are age-appropriate
  • Recognizing, understanding, and handling certain behaviors
  • Starting your babysitting business

The Babysitting Basics course culminates with a final exam. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a printable certificate that they can share with potential employers. Participants should bring water, snack, and a face mask. BFYMCA will provide participants with the following for use during the program and to keep: a folder, CPR mask, and printed course materials. COVID-19 Prevention policies are strictly enforced.
